Life with chronic illness from the perspective of a classical singer
HI! My name is Molly Noori. I'm a SoCal based artist (professional opera singer, voice teacher, director, entrepreneur, photographer) & advocate with multiple chronic illnesses.
I live with my husband, Sasha our two kiddos Julian (2) and Anne (15), and our Golden Doodle, Henry.
My Health in a Very Small Nutshell
I've lived with symptoms of chronic illness pretty much my whole life and was (FINALLY) diagnosed this year at age 37. The diagnoses of Fibromyalgia, Hashimoto's, musculoskeletal motility disorder, & alopecia (in addition to my old familiar companions anxiety, depression, & OCD) was both a relief and the catalyst for a frustrating and often isolating 8 months as I tried to figure out how these conditions were going to impact my career and my voice.
Why I Created The Chronicled Voice
There is little data out there on Fibro and the voice- definitely no studies that pertain to Fibro and opera singers. I gathered no useful information from ENTs (locally and nationally) and not much help from my other specialists beyond "lower your stress levels." This combined with not being able to track down other active classical singers with Fibro was overwhelming to say the least. With the negativity starting to snowball it became clear that I needed to redirect that energy into something positive...
So here I am... an advocate for other singers & artists who are also searching for answers. This community is a safe space for us to educate, empower, inspire, and support each other. A place where we can talk *bluntly* about the realities of living our creative lives with chronic illness and use our creativity to imagine a fulfilling life that looks, perhaps, a little different than we had planned.
